Latilye Valo (das Licht scheint) singt Wiliam Casse, in Gwo Ka, einer traditionellen Art der Volksmusik aus Guadeloupe. Gwo Ka wurde zu Kolonialzeiten erfunden und ist, wie so viele Musikinstrumente, eine notdürftige aber sehr innovative Entwicklung aus alten Weinfässern. Das Wort Gwo ist also als Drum benutzt worden. Ka dagegen beschreibt gesalzenen Herring in eben diesen Weinfässern. Da „unser“ Herring immer auslau rei verpackt ist, wollte ich den Geruch, den Schweiss und die Hitze und Kälte aus der Verpackung reißen und über ein o enes Feuer hängen. Drumherum versammeln sich die Menschen, um mit Bongos die Nacht zu begrüßen, ohne sie künstlich zu beleuchten.
